Grizzlies’ Ja Morant Undergoes Surgery, Will Miss Rest Of Season
Allan Henry-USA TODAY Sports

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant had surgery on his right shoulder this morning and the procedure was successful.

Morant will miss the rest of the season.

Morant played in nine games this season. He averaged 25.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 8.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks while shooting 47.1% from the field, 27.5% from beyond the arc and 81.3% from the free-throw line.

The Grizzlies went 6-3 with Morant in the lineup. Morant missed the first 25 games of the season due to a suspension. He showed a gun on IG Live in May. It was the second time Morant displayed a gun on IG Live.

Memphis signed Morant to a five-year, $197 million extension in July 2022. The two-time All-Star is expected to be ready for the start of next season.

The Grizzlies drafted Morant with the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Murray State. Morant won the 2019-20 Rookie of the Year Award. He is considered the most athletic point guard in the NBA right now.

Morant has career averages of 22.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks. The Grizzlies, who are in 13th place in the Western Conference standings, will likely miss the playoffs this season now that Morant is out.

Along with Morant, the Grizzlies are without Marcus Smart, Derrick Rose, Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke. It has been a tough season for Memphis injury-wise.
