Texas Rangers Roster Moves 4/7
Raymond Carlin III-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers took a brutal hit to their pitching staff when Josh Sborz, the hero of Game 5 of the World Series, went down on Saturday evening with an apparent injury. The team announced Sunday evening, just before the game, that Sborz would be placed on the 15-day injured list with a right rotator cuff strain. Grant Anderson was recalled from the AAA affiliate, the Round Rock Express, to replace Sborz on the roster during his recovery.

Josh Sborz

In game two between the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros, Josh Sborz was down to the final strike to end the top of the 8th inning when he grimaced and stretched his arm. A mound visit was called, and trainers and management joined Sborz on the mound for a conversation. It was decided that Sborz would exit the game as a precaution.

In the after-game interview, manager Bruce Bochy said that Sborz probably could have continued, but they opted to play it safe and pull him. He underwent diagnostics on Sunday, which revealed a right rotator cuff strain. It is currently unknown exactly how long he will be out.

Grant Anderson

Grant Anderson was recalled from Round Rock on Sunday afternoon. He should be en route from El Paso imminently. During the Express’s very young 2024 season, Anderson has appeared in two games. He pitched two innings of relief, allowing two hits, one walk, and one strikeout. He has a W/L record of 1-0 with an ERA of 0.00.

In his minor league career, he has 158 appearances, a W/L record of 21-10, and an ERA of 3.79 across 242 innings. He has recorded two game starts, 25 hold situations, 19 saves, and 31 save opportunities. He allowed 213 hits and 114 runs, 102 of which were earned, 25 home runs, 97 walks, three intentional walks, and 279 strikeouts.

In his Major League career, he has appeared 26 times with a W/L record of 2-1 and an ERA of 5.05 across 35.2 innings. He has recorded five hold situations, no saves, and four save opportunities. He allowed 38 hits, 20 runs, all earned, five home runs, 14 walks, one intentional walk, and 30 strikeouts.
